Are you willing to be hated? I think one of the most amazing things about real leaders is that they are willing to be hated for the better good of those they serve. In observance of Mother’s Day, I’d like to point out this amazing characteristic of all the great mothers I’ve ever known or read about. Good moms are always willing to be hated (hopefully temporarily) for the long-term good of their children. And it’s not just young children either. I know several moms who are still making the tough calls, even after their grown children have shunned them for years. Right is still right, and wrong is still wrong! “Hate me if you want to, but I won’t stand by and see you hurt yourself.” And imagine the mother of Christ, willing to accept scorn and ridicule from everyone (including her fiance) because she would give birth to the Savior. I can hear them now, “So tell me this again… you’re a virgin, but you’re pregnant!” Are you willing to be hated? Many who love you are… and Jesus is not exception.
“If I had not done among them what no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have seen these miracles, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: `They hated me without reason.'” John 15:24-25
