Comfort?

Have you been through something really tough?  We don’t always know why right away, but sometimes, later, it becomes obvious that God has allowed us to go through something really trying, so that we can help others go through the same thing.  Think back to the most difficult thing you’ve made it through successfully… do you think you could help someone in a similar situation make it through easier?  Of course you could.  That’s why we are commanded to carry each other’s burdens (Galatians 6:2), and to use the experiences we’ve made it through to comfort others.  That’s one of the reasons I always belabor the point that we should continue attending church, Bible study groups, and even Sunday School.  Even if we don’t seem to get as much out of the experience as we hope (although many churches provide that and more).  The question is not, “Am I getting what I need?”  But rather, “Am I doing all I can to see that others are getting what they need?”  Friends, the Church is the Body of Christ on Earth…  What would He be doing if He were attending your place of worship?

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.”  2 Corinthians 1:3-4
