Hey Mom, What’s A Sluggard?

I know I talk a lot about prayer and faith in my daily ramblings and I don’t want to water that down. Still, there’s another important thing to remember when you’re trying to make it from day to day. Pray? yes! Have faith that it will happen? Yes! But don’t forget to get up and get busy either. Is it just me, or do folks seem lazier these days! My father used to say, “If you don’t work, you don’t eat!” Man, was I shocked to find that was right out of the Bible (2 Thes 3:10). I thought he was just being mean. Now, I’m glad he taught me the value of work. Here’s another great piece of scripture about work:

“How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest — and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man.” Proverbs 6:9-10

I’ve heard it said that we should pray like it’s all up to God, but that we should work like it’s all up to us! I think that hits it right on the head.
