When’s the Execution?

pier and sea

No matter what you believe about capital punishment, there are still plenty of governments, both national and state, who choose to “bear the sword” against those deemed guilty of the most heinous of crimes. I wonder though, do we do anybody any good by not carrying out judgement in a timely fashion? How many appeals to a guilty verdict does a person really need? I was reading of an execution scheduled where the person was convicted of killing someone in the 1970s! It seems to me a government’s inability to carry out it’s judgement promptly does more harm than good. Surely any deterrence against other people committing similar crimes is lost in the years. As Christians, I think we too need to be more prompt in scheduling our own “execution of self.” Far too many people are walking around telling folks how they “gave their lives to Christ” when they know full well they’re still living out those lives! Just like capital punishment, a delay in carrying out the judgement seems to do much more harm than good. You will never truly live for Christ until you die to self.

“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.  For you DIED, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God…  PUT TO DEATH, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature:  sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.”  Colossians 3:1-5 (Emphasis mine)  In Christ, PastorJimKilby @Kilbin8er
